97.8 pct of positions in economic sector filled as of third quarter 2022

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — A total of 97.8 per cent of the 8.68 million positions in the economic sector have been filled as of the third quarter of this year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Based on the Employment Statistics released by DOSM, of the 8.48 million positions which were filled, 4.5 million positions were in the service sector.

“Meanwhile, as many as 2.39 million positions involve the manufacturing sector, over 1.2 million positions are in the construction sector, agricultural sector (470,000), and mining and quarrying (78,000),” according to the statistics.

DOSM also informed that 62.3 per cent of the positions filled are for the semi-skilled category, 24.9 per cent for the skilled category while the rest are for low-skilled workers.

According to the statistics currently, there are 191,300 vacancies covering all sectors.

It also stated that as many as 30,500 positions were created which were for newly enacted service schemes, promotion of existing employees and increase in the number of posts from the existing structure.
