Airasia unveils Singapore-Sibu route at Sarawak fair in Singapore

SINGAPORE, Nov 22 — Malaysia-based low-cost carrier AirAsia has unveiled its Singapore-Sibu, Sarawak route at the inaugural Sarawak Fair, organised by the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) here today.

Kicking off with four flights per week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – this is AirAsia’s third route connecting Singapore and Sarawak, following the successful launch of the Singapore-Kuching and Singapore-Miri routes earlier in April.

The Singapore to Sibu direct flight will commence December 16, 2022.

“Since we announced the Singapore-Sibu route last week, we have received an overwhelming response from both sides, especially from the business community, residents with families living on the other side as well as tourists and travellers,” said AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer (CEO) Riad Asmat in a joint statement today.

He said the airline is glad to be working closely with Statos as well as the Sarawak Ministry of Transport; Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts; Sarawak Tourism Board and all stakeholders and tourism partners in Sarawak and Singapore to make the route a success.

Riad also announced that AirAsia will be increasing its Singapore-Kuching flights to 11 times weekly and Singapore-Miri to five times weekly starting December.

“Together with the four times weekly Singapore-Sibu flights, we are the airline with the largest connectivity between Singapore and Sarawak, and we are very happy to be able to further facilitate trade and commerce, travel and tourism, and reconnecting families,” he said.

Promotional fares from as low as SGD74 all-in for a one-way Singapore-Sibu trip are available for bookings on the airasia Super App and website from now until November 27, 2022, while the Sibu to Singapore all-in promo fares start from only RM99.

The travel period for the promo is from December 16, 2022 to March 28, 2023.

“The introduction of the Singapore-Sibu route by AirAsia cannot come at a better time as we are working hard with all stakeholders to strategise in making Sarawak the preferred destination for tourism and business.

“I am sure AirAsia’s unveiling of its Singapore-Sibu flights at our maiden Sarawak Fair here at Suntec City marks the beginning of more strategic collaborations between us in the future,” said Statos CEO Chew Chang Guan.

The seven-day Sarawak Fair by Statos is held from November 21 to November 27, 2022, featuring 31 exhibitors from Sarawak’s tourism and business sectors.

The event aims to promote the state as an investment and tourism destination and generate sustained interest in its products and services among Singaporeans.

Visitors purchasing a tour package to Sarawak during the event will be able to ‘Spin the Wheel’ for sponsored prizes worth around SGD40,000, including 16 return air tickets with AirAsia to Sibu, Kuching and Miri.

Also up for grabs are resort and hotel vouchers, discount vouchers for holiday packages and sample products, including Sarawak’s world-famous bird’s nest products and black pepper.

Sibu is a thriving modern town rich in historical and cultural heritage, vibrant food scenes and beautiful waterfront life, with the largest port and commercial centre in Sarawak’s Rejang basin.

It is the main gateway to the central Sarawak region with convenient land and river transport access to many surrounding towns and commercial centres like Sarikei, Bintangor, Kapit and Mukah.
