Australian Open: Yew Sin – Ee Yi fall in final

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — Malaysia’s professional men’s doubles duo, Ong Yew Sin – Teo Ee Yi missed out on the golden opportunity to end more than two years of title drought as they fell to China’s Liu Yu Chen – Ou Xuan Yi in the Australian Open 2022 final, today.

The tournament held at Quay Centre, Sydney, saw the sixth-seeded pair open their game on the wrong footing as they went down 16 – 21 to the unseeded Yu Chen – Xuan Yi.

Despite showing a promising sign to take the game into the rubber set after a 14 – 11 lead, the Malaysians could not capitalise on the slight advantage at their disposal as they eventually lost 20 – 22 in the second set to Yu Chen – Xuan Yi.

The last time Yew Sin – Ee Yi clinched a title was in January 2020 whereby they were crowned as the Thailand Masters 2020 champions after beating China’s Huang Kai Xiang – Liu Cheng, 18 – 21, 21 – 17, 21 – 17.

However, Yew Sin – Ee Yi will have a chance to end the season on a high note as they will be playing in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 7 to December 11.

The 2021 BWF World Championships bronze medallists are now ranked third in the World Tour Finals with 60,430 points.

Only the top eight pairs will feature in the BWF World Tour Finals.
