BANGI, Nov 3 — Bangi seat incumbent Ong Kian Ming has described his parliamentary successor Syahredzan Johan as a capable leader diligent in reaching out and understanding the people.

He is confident that Syahredzan stands a great chance in defending the Pakatan Harapan (PH) stronghold in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

“Syahredzan is a very capable and competent candidate, hardworking in approaching voters on the ground, as well as able to work closely with PH leaders and supporters in the three State Legislative Assembly under Bangi, namely Sungai Ramal, Balakong and Seri Kembangan.

“In fact, my team will be his strongest support in this GE15,” said Ong after the launching of the Bangi PH operation room, earlier today.

The DAP member said the PH election machinery will use social media and go on ground, in order to get the support of new voters, including young voters aged 18 to 21.

“It is difficult to meet all the new voters and the most effective way is to use social media, as we believe our social media present is more effective than our opponents,” he said.

During GE13 in 2013, Ong won the Bangi parliamentary seat with 79,238 votes (a majority of 42,206), and retained the seat during GE14 in 2018, after receiving 102,557 votes (majority 68,768).

During the PH Federal administration from 2018 to 2020, he served as International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister.

However, Ong has decided to take a break from politics and announced he will not contest in GE15.
