BN, PN booths outside polling centres violate EC regulations

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — The action of setting up booths outside polling centres in Gombak by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have violated the Election Commission (EC) regulations, says the campaign secretariat for Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for Gombak Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

According to the secretariat, both coalitions have also been found campaigning using their party’s logo at several locations including Dewan Beringin, Taman Seri Gombak, Pinggiran Batu Caves, Taman Gombak and Sekolah Vokasional Sungai Pusu.

“This action has violated EC regulation because the campaign period ended last night.

“There is no requirement to have booths outside the polling centres because the EC has set up their counters at each polling centre to help Gombak folks to cast their votes.

“Pakatan Harapan campaign personnel in Gombak are currently in the process to report the violation to the EC. Other candidates are advised to abide by the General Election law and not tarnish their reputation by committing such an offence,” the secretariat said in a statement today.

The Election Offences Act 1954 stated that no person shall on polling day solicit or persuade or attempt to persuade any person to abstain from voting at the election, or to vote or to abstain from voting for any candidate at the election.
