KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 6 — The Kuala Selangor incumbent is seeking to reach out to young and first-time voters, as well as trying to retain the support of old voters.

Former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who represents Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) also wants to champion development issues in the area.

“I will be gracious to the people and want them to know that I am always around them,” he said.

Dr Dzulkefly is defending his seat against Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 15th general election (GE15), in a four-cornered fight.

The other candidates are Mohd Noor Mohd Sahar from Perikatan Nasional (PN), and Mohd Shaid Rosli from Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).

The former minister first won the seat in 2008 with a majority of 862 votes, and in 2018 he won with a majority of 8,498 votes.

Meanwhile, Harapan candidate for Sepang Aiman Athirah Sabu said she is confident that various pro-people initiatives in Selangor can be implemented on the Federal level if the coalition wins GE15.

“The Selangor government is the most compassionate. They have initiated many programmes including providing life insurance to the people. This has never happened before and there are many other programmes running concurrently.

“Issues related to the people’s wants, careers and their finances; we need to manage all of these well, but it entirely depends on whether we can achieve governing Putrajaya or not,” said the Wanita Harapan leader at the candidate nomination centre yesterday.

Aiman is facing off against PN’s Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, Pejuang’s Datin Che Asmah Ibrahim, BN’s Anuar Basiran, and four other Independent candidates.

As for Harapan Hulu Langat candidate Mohd Sany Hamzan, he will focus on solving school-related problems such as congestions and abandoned projects if he wins.

“There are several problems related to floods, overcrowding in schools, and schools not being ready. These are some of the things I fight for. Even before this, I really fought for these issues,” he said.

Mohd Sany, who hails from Kampung Sungai Michu, described the opportunity as welcoming, as if he had returned home.

Sany faces a six-cornered competition with BN’s Datuk Johan Abd Aziz, Pejuang’s Datuk Markiman Kobiran, PN’s Datuk Mohd Radzi Latif, Abdul Rahman Jaafar from Parti Warisan, and Independent candidate Mohamed Mustafa.

Closer to the heart of Selangor, Harapan’s candidate for Shah Alam Azli Yusuf said the he wants to increase health facilities in the city if he wins.

He explained that he often receives complaints from residents who want more clinics to be built, due to the relatively high population density.

“I plan to raise the issue of the lack of health clinics, and request for more to be built as there are only two in Section 7 and Section 19,” Azli said after handing in the nomination form at Section 19, here yesterday.

He also wants to ensure no residents are left behind and instead, development should happen all in-line with the city’s status.

“There are several issues that I will fight for, especially those related to the cost of living that plague the low and middle income groups,” Azli said.

He will go against PN’s Afif Bahardinl, BN’s Hizatul Isham Abdul Jalil, and Pejuang’s Rafique Rashid.
