GOMBAK, Nov 6 — Despite being preoccupied with campaigning for the 15th general election (GE15), Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari managed to find time to visit the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat initiative’s distribution centre in the wee hours of the morning, to ensure the chicken supply will not affect consumers.

The Pakatan Harapan candidate for Gombak stopped by a chicken and egg distribution centre, the location of which was undisclosed, following a problem with the chicken supply due to concerns it was not fresh enough.

“I requested they stop yesterday, as the chicken is not fresh and will decay. I took note there was a minor problem, and personally went there at 4.30am to determine if the issue was resolved or otherwise.

“What I am saying is, the state government will go to such a length to look after the people, even if the issue of food ingredients does not fall under our purview. But we do so in order to ensure a guaranteed supply,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking during a ceramah at Taman Keramat earlier today, where he explained the issue of goods including the chicken and eggs supply falls under the purview of the Federal government.

Yesterday, the Menteri Besar announced the sale of affordable basic necessities under Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat and operated by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will be extended until March next year instead of ending next month as initially scheduled.

The sale offers a variety of goods like standard chicken at RM10 per piece, fresh solid beef at RM10 per pack, and eggs at RM10 per tray.

Other items include mackerel and selayang fish at RM6 per pack, 5kg cooking oil for RM25, and 5kg rice for RM10.

The state government has allocated RM10 million to realise Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat in all 56 state constituencies.
