SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — The Festival Reka Bentuk dan Kraf (Tukang) organised by Tourism Selangor, and scheduled to start tomorrow until November 27, is expected to attract 5,000 domestic and international visitors.

The state tourism promotion agency said the inaugural festival, in collaboration with Rantai Art at Galeri Shah Alam here, offers a host of activities and educational programmes.

The programmes includes innovative exhibitions, art workshops, design talks, a pop-up arts and crafts bazaar, performances by local arts groups and indie musicians, as well as a Selangor tourism ‘pitching’ exhibition.

“This festival highlights innovative designers and artists through a RM10,000 public grant award that is given to six design winners, who must complete their projects within a three-month period,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the handicraft projects to be showcased during the festival include A Piece of Kampung by Leon Leong and Hani Ali, Tapak Ulam (Warenakita), Re:Vision (Gwyneth Jong and Maisarah Lubis), ‘Mok’ Pod (Gharib+Batiktektura), Sustainable Innovative Batik Alternative Tool (Ecovs) and T.I.K.A.R (Inside RG).

Tourism Selangor added that it is always innovative in promoting potential tourist attractions to realise Selangor’s aim to become a creative industry hub.

“This is in line with Selangor’s domestic tourism campaign, Pusing Selangor Dulu!. The innovative ideas from these creative talents can be used in the development of products ranging from fashion, to furniture and even food industries.

“People are invited to come and interact with the designers and craft artists throughout the festival,” it said.
