KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 14 — The candidates who win the 15th general election (GE15) need to be committed in carrying out their responsibilities in order to convince the younger generation to get involved in politics.

Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the character of the elected representatives is the determinant that would attract youths to venture into the field.

“The people’s representatives have to show commitment in order to attract young people. They need to display good impressions because this young generation will be the ones who take over politics in the future.

“Most importantly, these politicians have to be clean. Practice healthy, mature politics and stay away from abuse of power. That is why these elected candidates have to carry out their mandates well,” he said in a talk show during the Saturday Night Fest organised by Kelab Anak Muda Puncak Alam, here on November 12.

Earlier, the incumbent Kuala Selangor MP took time to reach out to young people in addition to listening to their opinions and sharing Harapan’s plans should they win GE15.

Dr Dzulkefly will contest against caretaker Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz from Barisan Nasional in a four-cornered fight.

Meanwhile, the Harapan candidate for Sepang parliamentary seat Aiman Athirah Sabu is intensifying her campaign as she enters the final week of the election campaign period to ensure residents go out and vote on November 19.

She said her side is now active in meeting as many Sepang residents as possible despite the rain.

“We are now going ‘all out’ to meet as many people as possible, but we are limited by time because by 3 or 4 in the afternoon, it will begin to rain. It is not an obstacle but we need to resolve it as soon as possible.

“In addition to emphasising our campaigning efforts, we also pay attention to the current weather and are ready to assist in case of any emergencies,” she said when met after attending the Sepang Harapan E-sport competition organised by Pemuda Sepang at Salak Perdana Business Park, here yesterday.

Aiman Athirah announced that she would establish the first youth council in Sepang if she should win the parliamentary seat.

“If I win, I would call up the group of participants to be members of the youth council to find out what they really require.

“These people will provide feedback and as a member of parliament, I will try to help them with what they need, such as futsal courts and so on,” she said.

In this GE15, Aiman Athirah competes against former Women’s Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun from Perikatan Nasional and Anuar Basiran (Barisan Nasional) in an eight-cornered competition.
