GE15: Fahmi aims to gazette Kg Kerinchi name, resolve land issues

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — Pakatan Harapan’s (Harapan) candidate for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat Fahmi Fadzil has pledged to ensure that the Kampung Kerinchi name would be gazetted should he be reelected to represent the constituency in the coming 15th general election (GE15).

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) information chief said the gazettement would guarantee that the traditional name would remain unchanged and would not be lost over time.

“That would be one of my focuses if I manage to win the election. When I first talked to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall about the plan, they said such a thing had never happened before.

“Just because they never implement such gazettement does not mean we do not have to do it. I want to see the Kampung Kerinchi name being gazetted, we will work on this. We have met with Persatuan Waris Kampung Kerinchi and we will continue our intention,” he said when delivering his speech during the ‘Jom Ngeteh Bersama Anwar Ibrahim’ programme at Bazaria Pantai, Kampung Kerinchi, here today.

In 2018, Fahmi fulfilled one of his 2018 election pledges by changing the name Bangsar South to Kampung Kerinchi when he was elected in GE14.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP said that housing issues have become his utmost concern because based on the conversations he had with the youth group, a majority of them lamented that they could only afford homes in suburban areas like Rawang and Semenyih.

“They have to live far away from their families. I would ensure that we could build more affordable housing and overcome the main problem which is land issues.

“Should Harapan manage to take over Putrajaya, one of the things that have to be rectified is issues related to housing projects and lands,” he said

Fahmi also pledged not to take any salary should he be appointed as one of the cabinet ministers or deputy ministers. Instead, he will create a fund to channel the money, which would be utilised to help those in need.

In response to allegations of practising favouritism throughout his service as the Lembah Pantai MP, Fahmi said that he had never denied any assistance to anyone, including those who are a member of another political party or non-partisan individuals.

“I will continue to take care of the people in Lembah Pantai, and it has been my spirit since day one I became an MP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Harapan chairman Datuk Anwar Ibrahim, who was also present, said Fahmi was renominated following his excellent track record in Lembah Pantai as well as in parliament.

“We are confident of his ability as the second generation in Harapan,” he said.
