SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Muar parliamentary seat in the ongoing 15th general election (GE15), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, has appealed to the people to provide opportunities for youth icons to serve in Parliament.

“We (the youths) are the next generation of Malaysia. We need people like us to fight for us. Youth icons like Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari should be given the opportunity to not only serve in the Selangor state government, but also in Parliament,” he said during a Hi-Tea session with Gombak Youths jat Coffee Box in Sri Gombak, earlier today.

Also in attendance was Amirudin, who is contesting the Gombak parliamentary seat.

Syed Saddiq also advised young voters to focus on choosing the candidates who offer new ideas and have solutions to problems plaguing the nation.

“I hope the youths today understand that this election is not the same as the elections before.

“First-time voters and young voters are the deciding factors in this election. So, choose the people you think will have solutions to the problems we face and those who have new ideas on how to run Malaysia better,” he said.

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president also said that the hopes of young Malaysians for a better political culture in the country should be upheld.

“We should be able to respect our opponents and celebrate differences in opinions, yet continue the struggle for the ideas and principles of political development,” Syed Saddiq added.

Meanwhile, Amirudin assured the people that with Harapan’s experiences, youth voices will be heard by the government.

“With our track record and ability, even though we only governed a short time, we were able to give opportunities to youths in this country.

“I believe we will be more responsive to them as Harapan has succeeded in giving youths the opportunity to be elected and to vote in elections,” said Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar.

Amirudin is contesting for the Gombak parliamentary seat against incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali from Perikatan Nasional, Megat Zulkarnain Omardin from Barisan Nasional, Jamaludin Mohd Tahir from Pejuang and Independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad.
