GE15: MB vows stability, loyalty to work, duties

By Sulyn Chong

SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has promised the electorate stability and strong devotion to his work and duties, should he win the 15th general election (GE15).

“I am not inclined to carry out any political maneuvering that harms the people. Political stability has been threatened by Azmin’s actions since early 2020.

“It is now time for the people of Gombak to judge or give their permission, or even support Azmin in this election. It is an important test for him as well as for the people here,” he said during an interview session with Astro Awani at Medan Selera Greenwood in Gombak, yesterday night.

Amirudin was referring to Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, the incumbent Gombak MP who was formerly in PKR but left to join Bersatu in February 2020, and was one of the contributing figures to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan Federal administration that month.

However, the Selangor Menteri Besar said he is ready to shoulder the responsibilities of being Gombak’s representative in Parliament.

“I shall carry this responsibility for the people of Gombak with integrity and commitment. Even more so since I have been given the opportunity by (Harapan chairman) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself.

“I shall defend the dignity of Gombak and the people who have been made uncomfortable by their association with someone who is regarded as having created instability in the nation,” he said.

Gombak is one of the hotseats in GE15 with, Azmin hoping to hold on to his seat.

However, Amirudin said that it is irrelevant who competes for the seat against the incumbent, because it is Azmin Ali who is the focus.

“It (the seat) would not be a point of focus, if Datuk Seri was not competing,” he quipped humorously.

Political stability has been an issue since the Sheraton Move that happened in early 2020 which brought down the Harapan government after only 22 months in power.

Gombak will see a five-cornered fight between Amirudin, Azmin who is contesting under the Perikatan Nasional ticket, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin from Barisan Nasional, Datuk Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir from Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, and Independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad.
