SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — The whole of Selangor is expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 9pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 4.30pm, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Penang, Labuan and Johor.

“Inclement weather is also expected in several other areas, namely Kedah (Kota Setar, Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), and Pahang (Pekan and Rompin).

“In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Miri (Marudi) and Limbang, while Sabah’s affected areas include Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Keningau,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
