Let’s move forward for development of Gombak — Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The successful win for the Gombak parliamentary seat has given its new people’s representative, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, a chance to improve the services in the constituency for the people.

Speaking to reporters after the announcement of the results for the Gombak seat this morning, the Menteri Besar had urged all parties to move ahead and let the focus be shifted towards the development of Gombak.

He said that as the newly elected representative, the Sungai Tua state assemblyman looks forward to a significant parliamentary representation that can support the development of a stable government or the check and balance system.

“I would like to thank everyone for this meaningful experience… to Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Pakatan Harapan… it was not an easy task to reclaim the seat after the episode of betrayal we experienced from the former MP.

“I would also like to thank the party leadership, (election) machinery and officers and all the voters for casting a significant ballot with a strong turnout.

“And also not forgetting the other contestants… the decision has been made and this serves as a reminder for myself to provide greater service as the other candidates also received a sizeable amount of votes… but this is the democracy (in) first pass the post (system),” said Amirudin.

The Selangor Harapan chairman had won the seat with 72,267, or a majority of 12,729 votes, followed by former three-term Gombak MP and Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (59,538), Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (30,723), Pejuang’s Datuk Dr Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir (2,223) and Independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad (675).

Meanwhile, Amirudin had also congratulated the Harapan candidates who contested for the parliamentary seats in Selangor as the coalition had won 16 out of the 22 constituencies in GE15.

He said while PN had captured the remaining four seats from BN, this sets a challenge in the upcoming Selangor state election, which is due to take place early next year.

“We would have to do our homework on what needs to be done to ensure that Selangor is still a Harapan stronghold and that we maintain as the state government in the upcoming state election,” he added.
