LZS to open zakat aid for flood victims tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — Selangor residents, particularly those in the asnaf category, who have been affected by the recent floods can apply for ‘LZS Peduli’ aid from the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) starting tomorrow.

It said the application for one-off assistance to heads of affected families will be opened until January 31 next year.

“Only one application is permitted for each residence. For further details, please visit www.zakatselangor.com.my/peduli,” LZS said in a Facebook post today.

The aid is open to Muslims born in Selangor or have been residing in the state for at least a year.

Several areas in Sepang, Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam have been inundated by floods in the past week.

A number of residents were affected and had to be evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS).

To face the risk of floods, approximately 796 PPS’ have been gazetted throughout Selangor, which can accommodate up to 151,000 victims.

Some 164 boats, as well as lorries and four-wheel drives, have been placed in all districts while 15,972 personnel from various agencies are on standby to conduct search-and-rescue operations should the need arise.
