MB: Don’t get too comfortable, work hard to defend Shah Alam

By Abdul Rahim Sabri

SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) election machinery has been reminded not to get too comfortable even though it is believed to be able to defend the Shah Alam parliamentary seat.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari advised the election machinery to work hard throughout the campaign to ensure that the seat remains in the coalition’s hands in the 15th general election.

“God willing, I am confident (to keep Harapan in Shah Alam). But we have to work hard. There are only a few days left, so do not take it lightly.

“I would like to advise everyone not to take things for granted and feel comfortable so soon,” he said this after campaigning in Shah Alam, in support of the constituency’s Harapan candidate Azli Yusof in Section 17, here yesterday.

Amirudin added that the confidence was based on Harapan’s tradition in dominating the area for the past three terms, as well as the state government’s various offers to the people.

“I believe we still have the power to inspire voters to trust us based on the hospitality and services we have provided in Selangor from the state assemblymen.

“They (the voters) have real evidence in which they can assess, not an offer that is still yet to be seen,” he said.

Amirudin, who is also the Harapan candidate in Gombak parliamentary seat, acknowledged that the voting in Shah Alam is “tough”, but he believes the coalition has a big impact, while the strength of Perikatan Nasional (PN) highly depends on the election machinery of PAS.

Azli is up against three other candidates, namely Isham Jalil from Barisan Nasional, Dr Afif Bahardin (PN) and Rafique Rashid from Pejuang.

In the 2018 general election, Harapan candidate Khalid Samad retained the seat with 55,949 votes. He had won it since 2008 with a majority of 33,849 votes.
