Over 5,000 graduates to receive scrolls at 46th UPM convocation

SERDANG, Nov 24 — A total of 5,688 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) graduates will receive their respective degrees and diplomas at the 46th UPM Convocation Ceremony’s second conference to be held from Saturday (November 26) until December 2, at the Dewan Besar, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre, UPM here.

UPM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said at the event 517 graduates will receive the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master’s (1,501), Bachelor’s (3,667) and diplomas (three).

He said the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, as the UPM chancellor, will present the PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s degrees, and diplomas to graduates on the first day of the convocation.

According to Mohd Roslan, Sultan Sharafuddin will also present the honorary doctorate in Business Economics to Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and the award of Professor Emeritus (posthumously) to the late Professor Dr Mahiran Basri.

“His Royal Highness will also award prizes to all university-level prize winners including the Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award to Syed Alif Imran Syed Khairil Akhbar from the Bachelor of Biological Sciences with Honours programme,” he said in a press conference today.

In addition, the Sultan will also present the Royal Education Award (Bumiputera) to Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honours, Sarah Nabilah Hamdan; Royal Education Award (non-Bumiputera) to Bachelor of Business Administration graduate, N. Misha; Alumni Gold Medal (Bachelor of Forestry Science graduate Tan Kim Hock) and Yayasan Pak Rashid Gold Medal (Bachelor of Science Physics with Honours graduate Goh Yong Shen).

Similarly, His Royal Highness will also present the Putra Agribio Medal (Horticulture Bachelor of Science graduate Melissa Lok Mei Teng); Razlan Putra Medal (Bachelor of Physical Education graduate Muhammad Safiy Md Said); Shell Station Entrepreneur Entrepreneurship Award (Bachelor of Science and Food Technology graduate Adlina Jamaludin; Tun Abdul Razak Award (Bachelor of Science Human Resource Development graduate Jessy Usun Francis), and Malaysian Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals Doctor of Philosophy Gold Medal (PhD Material Engineering L.Tamil Moli).

Others include Master’s Gold Medal with Thesis (Materials Engineering Science graduate Muhammad Harussani Moklis); BasNet Gold Medal Doctor of Philosophy (PhD Sports Science graduate Sun He), Syed Kechik Prize (Bachelor of Malay Language and Linguistics with Honours graduate Aidil Asyraaf Abdullah).

Meanwhile, Mohd Roslan said artistic gymnastics athlete who is also the 2022 SEA Games gold medalist Rachel Yeoh Li Wen and national netball player An Najwa Azizan are among the athletes who will graduate.

The convocation ceremony, comprising seven sessions over seven days, will also be completed by three UPM pro chancellors namely the Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in the fourth and fifth sessions on Nov 29 and 30, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Syed Jalaluddin Syed Salim (November 27 and November 28), and Prof Emeritus Datuk Muhamad Zohadie Bardaie (December 1 and December 2).

Mohd Roslan said UPM also took the opportunity to feature agricultural experts during the Agricultural Expo and the Convocation Festival at the Agricultural Clinic fair and sell agricultural products during the convocation ceremony.

“The entire surrounding community is invited to take this opportunity to meet and get advice from UPM experts,” he added.
