Batang Kali landslide: Nine victims confirmed dead as of 11am

BATANG KALI, Dec 16 — Nine people, including a five-year-old boy, were confirmed killed in the landslide incident near the camping site at the Father’s Organic Farm, Gohtong Jaya here, as of 11am today.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Suffian Abdullah said 25 people were still missing and efforts were made to trace them.

So far, he said, 53 victims had been brought out from the site of the landslide, with seven of them injured and sent to the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital and the Sungai Buloh Hospital, while those killed were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post mortem.

“The landslide occurred at three locations at the camping site, namely River Hilltop, Farm View and River Site. All the victims had camped there since last Wednesday,” he told a press conference at the site here today.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said 394 rescuers from 15 agencies were involved in the search and rescue operation.

“Based on information received, there were 94 individuals, including workers, at the location when the landslide occurred at about 2.30am.

“The rescue work is assisted by tracker dogs and the assistance of the air unit will be requested for an aerial survey of the area,” he added.
