Call for two or more concession companies for state-road maintenance

SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — The Selangor government has been suggested to appoint more than one concession company to manage the maintenance, repair and cleaning of state roads.

Port Klang state assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri, when making the suggestion, said it would create a healthy competition and ensure the concessionaires provide the best service.

Currently, road maintenance is handled by only one company, Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd through its subsidiary, Infrasel Sdn Bhd (Infrasel), he said, and claimed that the company did not perform its responsibilities well, including delay in repairing damaged roads.

“I would like to propose that another company be established so that there is competition. Otherwise it will be monopolised by only one company, causing the company to slack in its performance because there is no competition,” he said when debating the motion for the Development Allocation Budget 2023 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

“If we have two or more companies (to handle the maintenance of roads owned by the state government), there will be faster response and problems can be solved quickly,” he said.
