Enactment motion to gazette historical relics to be raised in State Legislative Assembly next year — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — The proposed enactment to gazette historical buildings or treasures in Selangor will be raised in the State Legislative Assembly next year, said state executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah.

He said the paperwork was carried out alongside the Selangor Malay Culture and Heritage Association, and will enable the state to gazette heritage treasures like in Melaka.

“Before this, any gazettement needed to be referred to the Heritage Department, but this enactment will ensure Selangor has the right to gazette state treasures.

“Currently half of Selangor’s historical buildings or heritage sites have been, are being and will be processed for gazettement. We will issue a statement in the near future,” Borhan said.

He was speaking at the launching ceremony of Selangor Batik, which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Annex Building of the State Secretariat Building, yesterday.

Commenting on Selangor Batik, Borhan said the use of the clothing will ensure the survival of the textile art, as well as dignify local batik.

“This effort will help to develop the textile industry based on Malaysia’s creative arts, and will also help to maintain and promote the identity of our heritage.

“To that end, the use of batik will be expanded and practised either formally or informally, starting with the state executive councillors, then State Legislative Assembly members, and state civil servants,” he added.
