PETALING JAYA, Dec 21 — Some 500 chickens and trays of egg were sold out within less than an hour during the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat programme for the Bukit Gasing state constituency at Flat Gasing Indah yesterday.

The flat’s Residents’ Association chairman Kamarulzaman Razali said the fourth iteration of the affordable basic necessities sale at the location was something its residents looked forward to, having begun to queue as early as 8.30am.

“The residents’ feedback has been very positive, lining up early and by 11am, the chicken and eggs were sold out.

“We broadcasted the sale via WhatsApp to residents, who have expressed the wish for the affordable sale to continue here in the future,” he told SelangorKini.

JER, organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, has been met with an enthusiastic public response with nearly 2,000 shoppers flocking to the location.

The programme coordinator and Bukit Gasing state constituency officer Mohd Razman Bakri said he hopes for an expansion in JER’s sales locations throughout the area, to ensure more people benefit from it.

“We hope further locations can be added to Bukit Gasing, given the numerous request from constituents. For today, many items quickly ran out like eggs, which there appears to be a high demand for from the public,” he said.

One shopper, Hanifah Kasbullah, 69, said he is moved and grateful for the state government’s initiative to offer quality basic goods at reasonable prices, which has helped to ease the people’s burdens.

“I feel very touched by the initiative of the state government, with thanks to the Menteri Besar for organising a programme that helps the poor such as us,” he said.

A variety of basic items are sold at JER, including standard chicken at RM10 per pack, fresh beef (RM10 per pack), Grade B eggs (RM10 per pack), mackerel or selayang fish (RM6 per pack), 5kg cooking oil (RM25) and 5kg rice (RM10).

Other products include items under the Ehsan PKPS brand, like wheat flour, sugar, chilli sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, canned sardines, biscuits, glutinous rice, dried noodles and ground chillies.

On December 13, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said between RM10 and RM15 million would be allocated for the continuation of JER’s roadshow, for a period of three months starting on January 15.

He said the second series of the tour, which offers basic necessities at prices lower than elsewhere, have benefitted up to 800,000 Selangor residents.
