SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The state government has commenced initial works at a reservoir pond and illegal landfill in Taman Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan to reduce odour pollution.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the diluting and water treatment works using effective microbe (EM) enzymes have been conducted at the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) reservoir pond.

“The use of EM enzymes aims to treat water in the nearby DID reservoir pond and drains.

“Apart from that, we also ensure the surface runoff will not enter the existing reservoir ponds, in addition to closing the water flow from Bukit Serdang waste site,” he said in a statement on Facebook, today.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Selangor government will build bunds at the illegal waste disposal site near Taman Puncak Jalil, here, to prevent sewage waste water from flowing into the nearby ponds.

He said the short-term solution is expected to reduce the anxiety of around 10,000 residents, including those living in Bukit Serdang 5 who are forced to smell the stench every day.
