KLANG, Dec 29 — The construction of a flood retention pond in Kampung Budiman at Meru was announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in the 2023 Selangor Budget, to help reduce the problem of floods in the area.

Meru state assemblyman Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar said the pond, built near SK Meru 2, is expected to be completed within two years.

“The construction of the retention pond has already commenced, but its current progress has slowed due to weather factors. We hope it will be able to resume normally soon, so as not to cause other problems.

“In addition to the construction of a new pond, the process of deepening the existing retention pond will be carried out in Sungai Bakul and the water pump house,” he said.

Mohd Fakhrulrazi was speaking at the officiation of the Safety, Health and Environment Week organised by Etika Dairies Sdn Bhd in Meru, Klang, earlier today.

Previously, during the tabling of the budget on November 25, Amirudin said the state Drainage and Irrigation Department will implement a RM45 million project to overcome the flood problems.

The project includes the construction of a RM20 million flood reservoir in Kampung Budiman, a RM15 million flood reservoir in Rawang Integrated, and a RM10 million flood reservoir in Shapadu Highway adjacent to Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja.

In addition, he said the Eco-Friendly Drainage Master Plan (Pisma) will also be carried out in Sabak Bernam with a RM500,000 allocation, for a more integrated drainage system.
