MB: Do not politicise education as it is for future generations

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged the public not to politicise education as it is for current and future generations, particularly in a multi-racial and multi-religious state like Selangor.

This is in response to disputes on various social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and Twitter regarding his statement on the state government’s intention to help Chinese private secondary schools in Selangor.

Amirudin said that currently there are only four Chinese private secondary schools in Selangor and all of them are located in Klang.

“Since there are growing demands from the Chinese community to further their secondary education in private schools, we have tried to identify suitable lands that could be sold to them and let them build another private secondary school outside Klang.

“By having a new school outside the district, it would provide more opportunities for students to continue their study in the fifth Chinese private secondary school. InsyaAllah, we will work for it,” he said in a video posted on Twitter earlier today.

Amirudin added there are many private schools including international schools or religious private schools such as Sekolah Al-Amin and Sekolah Setiabudi in Gombak.

“In 2022, we allocated some RM26.5 million for schools in the state, of which RM11 million has been set aside for Sekolah Agama Rakyat, RM6 million for Chinese vernacular schools, RM5 million for Tamil vernacular schools, RM2 million for Chinese private schools, and RM1 million for missionary schools.

“In fact, the state government has spent over RM90 million annually in the past five years to help Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) classes, via the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais),” he said.
