MBSJ: Hawkers affected by demolition offered new business sites

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SUBANG JAYA, Dec 21 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is offering business sites and food courts to hawkers who have been affected by the demolition of the illegal structures along the reserved shoulders of Jalan Taqwa, at Persiaran Puchong Permai in Puchong.

Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said the offer is to relocate the traders to a new location, yet some of them have refused to do so.

“Only three hawkers have moved, so we repeated the same processes with them. We are providing the site (Dataran Niaga Puchong Permai) at a reasonable monthly rental of RM30 per plot for one session, while in a day there are three sessions available.

“Meanwhile, Medan Selera MBSJ in the nearby vicinity was opened to tender due to high demand, with rentals ranging from RM350 to RM1,000 per month.

“We hope they will accept the offer and names provided to MBSJ, so we can contact the hawkers interested to be placed at the prepared site,” he said after inspecting the demolition operation of 25 illegal structures in Puchong today.

Johary said Dataran Niaga Puchong Permai was built for traders to have an organised business hub, equipped with basic facilities to ensure the comfort of visitors including 52 lots, kiosk facilities, public toilets, children’s playgrounds and parking spaces for cars and motorcycles, including facilities for the disabled.

“MBSJ hopes the hawkers will take advantage of the facilities provided while simultaneously reduce traffic congestions and complaints received around the Puchong Permai Roundabout.

“Traders need to comply with the rules to avoid enforcement actions being imposed on them,” he said.
