MPKj monitoring risky areas throughout northeast monsoon

SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) is monitoring risky localities in areas under its jurisdiction, amid the ongoing northeast monsoon phenomenon.

Its President Najmuddin Jemain said this is a precautionary measure in case of flooding disasters, in addition to learning lessons from the recent Batang Kali landslide tragedy.

He said members of the council’s Special Action Squad (Pantas) are also preparing for next month, to help with urgent and critical work.

“The MPKj Disaster Operations Room has also been activated with immediate effect and has been operating on a 24-hour basis since November. In the event of an emergency, you can contact 1-800-88-1144,” Najmuddin said.

Speaking at the MPKj online meeting yesterday, he reminded the public to maintain constant vigilance, and be alert to the authorities’ instructions during the monsoon period.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of rain and thunderstorms for one or two places in Selangor for two days, until today.
