SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — The Selangor National Sports Council (MSNS) has entered into an understanding with several public and private universities for the education and career development of the state’s athletes.
Selangor state executive councillor for youth and sports development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the universities involved are Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Management and Science University (MSU) and Open University.
“Through this understanding, Selangor athletes will have the opportunity to continue their studies even if they only have minimum qualifications,” he said during the wind-up of the 2023 Selangor Budget, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.
According to Mohd Khairuddin, MSN also plans to provide guidance to the state’s athletes who will enter the working world, especially in the coaching field, in accordance with the Athlete Education and Welfare Sections.
“Among the plans we have is to expose them to sports science courses and specific sports that will help them become coaches. They need to take these courses separately.
“MSN will work with the National Coaching Academy to help athletes become coaches,” he said.
