Over Kemas kindergartens affected by floods in three states

JERTIH, Dec 30 — A total of 212 Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergartens, in three states, were affected by flooding on December 18.

Kemas director-general Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi, said that the number included 100 premises in Terengganu, while the rest were in Pahang and Kelantan.

“A total of 694 Kemas employees have also been affected by flooding in these three states.

“In Besut alone, a total of 24 Kemas kindergartens were affected by the floods,” he said to reporters when met at Kampung Darau Kemas kindergarten, in Hulu Besut, near here.

Earlier, Ahmad Kamal and Terengganu Kemas director Faridah Mat conducted post-flood monitoring at several kindergarten premises in the flood-affected area in Hulu Besut.

However, he said that all the affected Kemas kindergartens will open as usual this January session (Sunday and Monday) because the affected premises did not suffer serious structural damage.

Ahmad Kamal said most of the damage only involved furniture, equipment, and books.

“We are currently identifying the total value of the damage, and efforts to repair and replace facilities with new equipment will be made immediately to ensure the comfort of the children and staff.

“I would also like to say thank you to all the volunteers, such as parents and local leaders, as well as Kemas employees, who were involved in cleaning the affected premises,” he added.
