Padang Serai, Tioman voters advised to follow proposed time to go to the polls — EC

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Ahead of the general election for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in Kedah, and for the Tioman state seat in Pahang tomorrow have been advised to come during the gazetted time or the time proposed by the Election Commission (EC) as stated in their voter’s information slip.

In a statement today, EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said 132,955 voters are expected to cast their votes in Padang Serai and 28,108 others in Tioman and they were also advised not to do so at the last minute.

He said the polling centres would open from 8am to 6pm.

Voters are also advised to check their details at or by calling the EC Hotline at 03-88927018 / 03-88880040 or via the MySPR Semak app before going to the polls.

A total of 46 polling centres with 230 voting streams will be opened in Padang Serai, and 17 polling centres with 52 voting streams will be made available in Tioman.

The EC also encouraged the voters to wear face masks, use hand sanitiser, and practice physical distancing while at the polling centres, while those confirmed Covid-19 positive should liaise with the district health officers at the centre for further instructions.

Ikmalrudin also reminded all employers to give time off to their employees to perform their civic duty to vote as provided for under the Election Offences Act 1954.

“The EC also hoped that all quarters will adhere to the rules, regulations and election code of ethics to ensure the smooth running of the election process and also to maintain public order,” he said, adding that legal action can be taken against those who violated the laws.
