SHAH ALAM, Dec 6 — The Selangor government has approved several projects to overcome flood issues in the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) administrative area through the Shah Alam Flood Action Plan (Sasud).

Its mayor Nor Fuah Abdul Hamid said the project includes upgrading the pump house in Section 13 and Section U1, in addition to the construction of a pump house in Persiaran Aman as well as infrastructures in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25.

He also said that the construction of a pump house at Jalan Saksama 25/29 and Jalan Khidmat 25/35 as well as the repair of sewerage system in parts of Kampung Bukit Naga, Section 32, were also approved.

“This project has been advertised as a tender at a cost of RM14.64 million. Through this implementation, it will offer hope and a feeling of safety to the residents, especially those in flood hotspots,” he said after being sworn in as the 10th mayor of Shah Alam at the Town Hall, MBSA Building, here yesterday.

Nor Fuad added that flood mitigation programmes such as Sasud need to be intensified in the city.

“Shah Alam was hit by floods at the end of last year. This action plan is implemented as a short-term plan and will happen in stages,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nor Fuad also said that the project to upgrade the Shah Alam Theater building in Section 14 is expected to begin in the middle of next year.

According to the mayor, the improvements to the building include the roof, acoustic systems, chairs, carpets and external damages.

He also said that there are plans to add a mini amphitheater in the area to give space to artists to stage their works.

“This space provides an opportunity for new artists to showcase their art form,” he said.

Nor Fuad informed that his administration is looking to host various arts and cultural activities at Laman Budaya, Laman Seni 7, Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam which includes the Shah Alam Theater and the Shah Alam Lake Park.

“The lake park is also a focal point for members of the public to enjoy the night view which includes the water fountains at the Laman Budaya Musical Fountain,” he said.
