SHAH ALAM, Dec 8 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected throughout Selangor until 9pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 4.45pm on Facebook, the agency said that other affected areas include Perlis, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
“Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim).
“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia, inclement weather is forecasted for Sarawak: Kuching, Kapit (Belaga), Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
