SHAH ALAM, Dec 22 — Senior citizens in Selangor will be able to enjoy RM150 in shopping vouchers and RM500 in death benefits through the Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS).

State executive councillor for community welfare V Ganabatirau said the programme, which was restructured from the previous Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) with a total allocation of RM37.5 million, can be applied for by the public starting on January 1, 2023.

“Before this, the public did not know SMUE was also open to disabled persons regardless of their ages. As such, it recorded only 5.5 per cent in registrations.

“We then decided to restructure it so the programme is more targeted,” he said after launching SMIS at Dewan Annex of the State Secretariat Building earlier today.

On November 25, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced SMIS will be handled by Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor, during the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget.

He added the monthly household income limit for Jom Shopping voucher recipients will be increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000, beginning next year.
