Shah Alam, Klang prep for floods in face of continuous heavy rains warning

SHAH ALAM, Dec 12 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) are readying themselves for the possibility of flash floods in areas under their jurisdiction, should the ongoing heavy rains continue.

MBSA’s corporate and public relations department head Shahrin Ahmad said the council’s Special Action Squad (Pantas) operations room is open around the clock, which the public can contact at 03-55105811.

He said Pantas is constantly monitoring disaster hotspots and identifying public halls that will be used as temporary relief centres (PPS) to accommodate affected victims.

“We will work alongside other agencies including the Land and District Office, the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Social Welfare Department in the event of a flood, including the evacuation of flood victims,” ​​Shahrin told Selangorkini.

Similarly, Meanwhile, MPK’s corporate communications director Norfiza Mahfiz said a total of 146 personnel consisting of law enforcers and its own Pantas are ready for mobilisation to deal with possible disasters.

She added the personnel underwent boat handling and water rescue training on December 8.

“The training included confidence levels in the water, throwing lifelines, driving and parking boats, as well as rescuing victims,” ​​Norfiza said.

Yesterday, the Irrigation and Drainage Department issued a preparedness notice for potential flash floods in the districts of Petaling, Klang, and Sepang.

Petaling’s areas which are expected to face possible flash floods within 24 hours include Batu Tiga town, Shah Alam town, and the surrounding areas.

For Klang, they include Pandamaran, Kapar town, Mukim Klang, and the surrounding areas.

In Sepang, the areas include the Sepang subdistrict, the Dengkil subdistrict, and the surrounding areas.
