State tourism programme recognised as Tourism Selangor garners two awards

SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — Tourism Selangor has won two prestigious awards for its dynamic and active tourism promotion initiative, said its chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad.

The agency won the Government Service Delivery Award in the Tourism Sector, and a Public Sector Award for Domestic Tourism Promotion by the Malaysian Public Relations and Communications Association.

He said the awards are a result of the “Nak Berkut, Pusing Selangor Dulu!” and “Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!” tourism promotions.

“With this dynamic and active tourism promotion, Selangor was announced as the first domestic tourism destination for 2021, with over 10.2 million tourists entering the state.

“The influx of over 10.2 million tourists was one of the contributing factors to and the main strengths assessed for the award,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Azrul Shah also admitted it has not been easy to develop the tourism sector during the Covid-19 pandemic period, but industry players have proven their mettle to attract both domestic and foreign tourists.

He added it was also helped by various forms of assistance provided by the state government, via Pakej Kita Selangor.

The tourism industry plays an important role in Selangor, especially in shaping the state’s local economy.
