In a warning issued at 5.35pm on Facebook, the agency said that other affected areas include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

“Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Pahang (Bentong, Temerloh and Bera) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Mersing).

“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia inclement weather is forecasted for Sarawak: Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong (Pusa, Betong and Kabong) as well as Sabah: Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan),” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
