Tourism Selangor heads to Vietnam to boost state attractions, forge bilateral ties

SHAH ALAM, Dec 28 — Tourism Selangor’s recent working visit to Vietnam from December 18 to December 23 was a strategic move to boost the state’s tourism industry and form relationships with local industry players, said state executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian.

He said the visit is expected to promote increased awareness of Selangor as an ideal travel destination in Asia, and to develop more collaboration between tourism operators and tourism industry members in Vietnam.

“With the travel ban lifted, travellers will have smoother journeys to Malaysia. Thanks to the strategic location in Selangor providing connectedness and accessibility, travellers can easily reach any area in Selangor.

“The main entry points to Malaysia include KLIA, KLIA2, Subang Skypark Terminal and Port Klang Cruise Terminal,” Hee said in a statement.

As the world heads towards 2023, Hee said it is the right time for Selangor to resume its pre-pandemic growth.

“As of 2021 Selangor received a lower tourist inflow from Vietnam, with 6,608 tourists visiting Selangor, due to the multiple travel restrictions applied to curb Covid-19 transmission. This is compared to the pre-pandemic period when tourists arriving from Vietnam stood at around 27,075,” he said.

Accompanying the councillor on his working visit was Tourism Selangor’s Chief Executive Officer Azrul Shah Mohamad. The visit showcased a wide range of market segmentation in Selangor while promoting the ‘Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!’ campaign.

The state’s wide range of segmentation provides abundant tourism attractions, from eco-tourism, theme parks, culture and heritage, to splendid shopping and leisure experiences. They include the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, Fireflies Park in Kampung Kuantan, the Mah Meri Cultural Village, and the Avani Sepang Gold Coast Resort.

Tourism Selangor is ready to tap into extensive partnerships with tourism operators and industry players while gearing up its awareness to elevate the mission to be a prominent travel destination in the Asian region.
