SHAH ALAM, Dec 22 — Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast to hit six districts in Selangor, namely Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat dan Sepang, until 10am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a post on Facebook said the storms would also occur in Putrajaya, Labuan and five other states.
The affected states include Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau), Melaka, Sarawak (Miri), Sabah inland (Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), west coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud) and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat).
According to MetMalaysia, the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour or is expected to take place for over an hour.
“Thunderstorms warning is a short-term warning which is valid within six hours after it is issued,” the statement read, issued at 6.05am.
