Capital A’s Consolidated Airlines record 24.2 mln passengers in FY2022

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — Capital A Bhd’s Consolidated Airlines reported an increase in the number of passengers to 24.2 million in the financial year 2022 (FY2022), up by 404 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y), exceeding the 345 per cent y-o-y jump in capacity.

The low-cost carrier revealed that the increase in passenger numbers resulted in an 84 per cent load factor, one percentage point (ppt) away from achieving the pre-Covid-19 load factor.

“Seats sold for international flights continued to climb by 3,536 per cent y-o-y as international borders reopened, alongside regional travel restrictions lifting, while seats sold for domestic flights increased by 290 per cent y-o-y,” Capital A said in a statement today.

The company also said that available seat kilometres and revenue passenger kilometres rose by 410 per cent and 488 per cent y-o-y respectively, in tandem with the increase in capacity and passengers carried.

Commenting on the fourth quarter (4Q) of FY2022, the carrier said the aviation segment remained firmly on a strong recovery path post-pandemic transition with added impetus from the rapid resumption of international travel.

“Benchmarked against the corresponding pre-Covid-19 performance, Capital A’s Consolidated Airlines had recovered passenger volume faster than capacity restoration in 4Q FY2022.

“The Consolidated Airlines carried over 7.8 million passengers in 4Q FY2022, an increase of 187 per cent y-o-y, on the back of 9.1 million seat capacity injected during the quarter leading to a consistent quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) 86 per cent load factor,” it added.

Commenting on individual performance, Capital A said AirAsia Malaysia’s 4Q FY2022 load factor improved by one ppt to 87 per cent from the preceding quarter, AirAsia Indonesia posted a lower load factor of 78 per cent in 4Q FY2022, down by three ppts y-o-y and four ppts q-o-q.

“AirAsia Philippines recorded a healthy load factor of 87 per cent, up by two ppts y-o-y and down by two ppt q-o-q, while associate airline, AirAsia Thailand achieved the highest quarterly load factor of 90 per cent, up 14 ppts y-o-y and three ppts q-o-q,” it said.

On AirAsia Super App, the company said that the application recorded 12 million Monthly Active Users as of December 2022, a significant improvement of 41 per cent y-o-y.

“In 4Q FY2022, the number of transactions reached 11.6 million, bringing the overall transactions for the year to 31 million, up 386 per cent y-o-y, mainly contributed by the scheduled extension of AirAsia flights,” it said.

Meanwhile, BigPay closed the year with 1.3 million card users, a healthy growth of 27 per cent y-o-y and maintained quarterly growth momentum at four per cent q-o-q.
