Faisal, Ruven can propel Red Giants to glory — Brendan

SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Selangor FC skipper Brendan Gan believes both Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim and V. Ruventhiran will be able to bring their fine performances from the recent AFF Cup to help the Red Giants in the Malaysia League this season.

The 34-year-old midfielder said winger Faisal, 25, and left-back Ruventhiran, 21, had shown their capabilities with both the national team and their previous clubs.

“This season, we have new players that come into the group with big personalities, and that can add a lot to the team. We’re looking to utilise every part of it,” he told reporters at Selangor FC’s Training Centre here yesterday.

“So we will use their qualities as best as we can and we’ll focus on winning as a team, not as an individual,” he said when asked about the new duo.

Earlier, Selangor, under the tutelage of Tan Cheng Hoe, introduced four new players for the 2023 season, namely Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee, Ruventhiran, Mohamad Faisal and Jordan midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh, who is the club’s first foreign signing of the season.

Brendan, however, is expecting a tough challenge this season as every team had improved their squads to challenge for trophies.

“Hopefully we can all do our roles as individual players to bring in the results for the team’s success,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cheng Hoe said the Red Giants squad has not met the quota of imported players for pre-season matches, despite having started training on January 5.

He said any plans to bring in import players need to be discussed first, while also adding that it was too early to set targets for this season.
