High demand leads PKPS to set purchase limit for affordable basic goods programme

KLANG, Jan 17 — The overwhelming response from Sementa constituents during the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) affordable basic necessities sale roadshow has made the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) set a purchase limit for customers.

Its strategic communication manager Noor Azreena Abdul Aziz said doing so will ensure all customers have the opportunity to buy items during the programme.

She said the programme began 15 minutes earlier than usual, since the public started queuing from 8am onwards to purchase daily goods which are sold at prices cheaper than the market average.

“We have to limit each customer to one chicken and a tray of eggs. This will ensure everyone can purchase the items.

“In under an hour and by 10am, a total of 250 chickens and 150 trays of eggs were sold out. Had we not placed the limits, many would have been left frustrated.

“The public’s response has been quite stimulating, and all items on offer were completely sold out by 11.30am,” Noor Azreena said when met at Masjid Al-Islah in Kampung Sementa, earlier today.

She added JER will carry on until Saturday (January 21), after which it will take a break due to the Chinese New Year public holiday, before resuming on January 25.

JER offers a variety of items including standard chicken at RM10 per pack, fresh solid beef (RM10 per pack), Grade B eggs (RM10 per tray), mackerel fish (RM6 per pack), cooking oil (RM25 per bottle) and 5kg bags of rice (RM10).

Also on sale are dried goods under the Ehsan PKPS brand, including wheat flour, sugar, chilli sauce, tomato sauce, soy sauce, canned sardines, biscuits, glutinous rice, dry noodles and ground chillies.
