MB, CM of six states need to discuss dates for state polls — Aminuddin

SEREMBAN, Jan 17 — Six states that will be holding the state election this year need to discuss suitable dates to dissolve their respective state legislative assembly.

In this regard, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said he, together with Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, are in talks to meet with the Menteri Besars of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu on the matter.

“We are discussing meeting our counterparts in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah to decide the dates.

“Then we will inform and discuss with the Election Commission regarding the suitable dates to hold the election so that there is no overlap,” he told reporters here today.

Aminuddin, who is also Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman, agreed with Chow that June is the best time to hold the state polls.

“If we dissolve (the state assembly) in May, the people go to the polls in June. So I share the same view with him that the election can be held around that time. This is also to give other parties the opportunity to prepare and hold their election campaign,” he said.

Yesterday, Aminuddin said the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly is expected to be dissolved in May to pave the way for the state polls.
