SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has today celebrated the Chinese New Year festival with thousands of guests at the state-level event held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.
His arrival was greeted by the visitors who had gathered since 3pm to join in the celebration, which the Menteri Besar described as merrier as it featured a feast and various activities.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chinese New Year festival was celebrated with online live performances, but this time, we feature a feast that commences at 7.30pm.
“The people would get a chance to relax, and there are various activities that the public can take part in that feature Chinese culture before the main event at night,” he said.

Amirudin and his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, visited several booths, the children’s colouring activity, and the Chinese calligraphy exhibition.
He also took the chance to watch a lion dance performance and take photographs with other guests.
Themed “Return of Spring Season” (Musim Bunga Kembali ke Khatulistiwa), starting at 7pm, the event features cultural performances by 120 artists, including soprano singer Evelyn Toh.
The event held at Shah Alam City Council Auditorium is able to cater to 1,200 invited guests while the public is able to watch the performances via a large screen set up in the square.
Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah are also expected to attend the event.
