MDSB to issue RM500 fines to food traders if fail to wear face masks

SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — Food traders and eatery operators in Sabak Bernam who fail to adhere to the mandatory use of face masks will be fined RM500.

Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) on Facebook said the new directive has been enforced in all local councils since January 1.

“Effective January 1, all food traders and eatery operators in Selangor must comply with the mandatory use of face masks to ensure food safety and hygiene.

“Failure to comply will result in a fine of not more than RM500,” it said.

On December 29, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the mandatory use of face masks for hawkers and restaurant operators in the state from January 1 is aimed to improve the level of hygiene in food handling.

He said this approach can also increase customer confidence in addition to avoiding the spread of Covid-19 and food poisoning issues.
