SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has outlined seven measures to be taken by eatery operators to prevent rat infestations at their premises.
Its Corporate Communication director Norfiza Mahfiz said two of the measures include providing bins with lids and plastic bags and ensuring the bins are covered at all times.
“The eateries are also told to create a cleaning roster and to not throw garbage or food waste straight into the drains,” she said in a statement.
Norfiza said other recommendations include ensuring fresh goods are stored in a clean and proper condition, hiring a pest control company to conduct trimonthly inspections and ensuring that cleanup is done after the operation hour.
She said in 2022, 45 eateries were given a 14-day closure order because the operator failed to maintain a clean environment.
“The premises were shut under Section 62(1)(b) Food Establishment Licencing Bylaw (MPK) 2007.
“We also have handed over the Corrective Action Notice to the premise owners to conduct cleaning works,” she said.
Norfiza added that during the same period, a total of 442 compounds were issued to eatery operators for various offences under the Food Establishment Licencing Bylaw (MPK) 2007 and Food Handling ByLaw (MPK) 2007.
She said the offences include failing to install an oil trap system, unclean premises, failing to wear aprons and caps, failure to do pest management and failing to provide their employees with typhoid vaccinations.
