MPKL provides one month grace period for food operators to don face masks

By Sheeda Fathil

KUALA LANGAT, Jan 8 — The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) has given one month to food operators in areas under its jurisdiction to wear face masks.

Its President Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said notices will be issued after the period if any of the traders or hawkers fail to do so.

“We do not want to withdraw their business licenses, seeing as how even the average trader has been strongly affected during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“I believe by giving advice to food traders they will comply, as this also serves to maintain their reputation and the cleanliness of their premises,” he said.

Amirul was speaking at the officiation of the Low Carbon Day @ Bandar Rimbayu Kuala Langat programme, at Jalan Flora 2 in Bandar Rimbayu yesterday.

Earlier on, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari suggested the use of face masks among food handlers should be carried out by Selangor’s local authorities in stages.

He said ensuring food traders wear face masks when doing business will create confidence in customers during the preparation and serving process.
