GOMBAK, Jan 3 — Close to 30 per cent of the 22 Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) councillors who took the oath today are women.
The chairman Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi said the appointments for the 2023 term are made up of 10 per cent new appointments and 10 per cent of youths under the age of 35.
“For the 2023 term, a total of 20 councillors have been re-appointed and two new members, while another two have not been appointed for now.
“I hope the councillors can represent the community and deliver the various agendas, programmes and activities organised by MPS,” he said after the MPS councillors’ swearing-in ceremony at the local authority’s headquarters, here today.
Meanwhile, MPS councillor Alice Choo Foong Thye, who assumed the position for the first time, is determined to be a voice of the residents and help solve their problems.
“As a new member of the council, I promise my commitment to be the voice of the Selayang community and ensure their well-being,” she said.
MPS council member Mohamad Faridul Amini Suhaimi is determined to ensure that the welfare of the community in Selayang is maintained in line with the state’s progress.
“I will act as a platform to convey the problems of the Selayang community whether it is infrastructure or welfare needs,” he said.
