MPS offers incentives to merchants using cashless transactions

GOMBAK, Jan 4 — Traders who practice cashless transactions will have the opportunity to receive incentives from Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).

Its president Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi said the initiative aims to encourage online payments in line with digital development.

“We have discussed this matter and it will be implemented soon. The incentive will be given in the form of money so that traders will be more enthusiastic.

“So far we have identified Bandar Baru Selayang for the pilot project,” he said when met after the swearing-in ceremony of MPS councilors, here today.

Mohd Yazid said MPS will also work with Selayang Community College to provide training to individuals who are interested in cooking, thereby opening up opportunities for them to generate income.

“We plan to offer skills training to individuals with culinary talent at Selayang Community College. Besides developing knowledge, they can also generate income,” he said.

Meanwhile, MPS has required hawkers and restaurant operators to wear face masks.

Mohd Yazid said that MPS will give advice to individuals who flout the law during the first three months.

“If after three months there are people who still disobey, we will impose a compound, and if they are still stubborn, their license will be revoked.

“We ask all hawkers and restaurant operators in Selayang to comply because this move is aimed to ensure cleanliness and provide comfort to visitors,” he said.

Recently, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the use of face masks is mandatory for hawkers and restaurant operators in the state starting January 1.

He said the approach could also increase customer confidence in addition to preventing the spread of Covid-19 and food poisoning issues.
