PETALING JAYA, Jan 17 — A total of 222 Chinese residents in the Kampung Tunku state constituency has received Jom Shopping vouchers in conjunction with Chinese New Year, last Sunday.
Its assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said the vouchers worth RM200 each were distributed in a ceremony at Pasaraya Giant in Kelana Jaya.
“A total of 274 people should have received the voucher but only 222 attended the event.
“I hope the recipients will be able to take advantage of the vouchers, thus lightening their burden, especially during this festive season,” she told SelangorKini today.
The state government has allocated RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping voucher programme in conjunction with various festivals which will benefit 82,400 recipients.
It is implemented in conjunction with three major festivals, namely, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali to ease the burden of underprivileged families to buy essential goods.
Beginning this year, the value of the voucher was increased from RM100 to RM200 following the economic situation and the needs of the people.
