Package explosion in Ampang: Married couple detained

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — A married couple, aged 33 and 30 respectively, was detained by the police yesterday to assist in the investigation of a case in which a package exploded killing a waiter in Pandan Indah, Ampang, last Thursday.

Acting Selangor police chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the two were arrested at 7.30pm at a housing area in Serdang, Kedah.

“Both of them have been remanded for seven days from today until next Tuesday,” she said in a statement today.

Sasikala said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and advised the public not to make any speculations about the case.

Earlier the media reported that a 28-year-old local man suffered injuries and died after a package that was left on his car exploded when he held it.

Ampang Jaya District police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said a member of the public called to inform of the explosion incident at 8.55pm last Dec 29.
