Quarry trucks banned from using Jalan Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1 immediately — State rep

KAJANG, Jan 5 — Quarry trucks have been banned from using Jalan Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1 in Bandar Mahkota Cheras with immediate effect, said Kajang state assemblyman Hee Loy Sian.

Hee, who is also the state executive councillor for tourism, said the move was taken to ensure the safety of residents in the area.

Residents also have submitted complaints regarding traffic congestion, damaged roads and fatal accidents which occur in the area.

Following that, the quarry trucks have been advised to use other roads in Hulu Langat as an alternative.

“We have summoned all parties involved in the matter, including the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Hulu Langat District and Land Office, as well as quarry company representatives, to inspect the situation on the ground.

“Following that, MPKj has decided the road cannot be used by the trucks,” he said.

Noting the issue has persisted for the past five years, Hee said asides from the quarry lorry, there are pipeline projects taking place, namely the Langat 2 project and the IWSS (integrated water pipe installation) in the area.

“Before this, we could not resolve this issue as we did not manage to identify which party or parties were damaging the roads. Therefore, MPKj had to repair the roads due to multiple complaints.

“Now, both piping projects have been completed and only the quarry remains,” he said when met in Bandar Mahkota Cheras today.

The state assemblyman added that MPKj spent RM2 million annually to repair damaged roads in the area.

“The original road is a park road with a vehicle load limit of two tonnes, but this quarry truck weighs over 30 tonnes, with about 100 trucks passing through it every day causing damage to the road.

“As of now there are four quarries, with three of them using the Hulu Langat road and only one company using this road, which poses a danger to other road users.

“Therefore, we suggested they use the other access (in Hulu Langat), and avoid using the road in Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Sungai Long,” Hee said.
